The WVU Institute of Technology Residence Life Office has compiled a list of items which we feel would enable you to make your stay at Tech an enjoyable and comfortable one, as well as, things to leave at home.
We provide each student with:

Cable Jack (1 per room)
Telephone Jack with voicemail (1 per room)
Ethernet Connection (1 per room)

You should provide:
Sheets (XL twin) (regular flat sheets will work)
Surge Protector/Heavy Duty Extension Cord

Bath Robe, shower shoes

Shower bucket, towels, washclothes
Alarm clock
Cleaning supplies (broom/dustpan, etc.)
Fans (round, square, tall, short)
Throw Rugs or Carpet (Maclin or Hirise)

Television (1 per room)

Alcohol containers (full or empty)

Small extension cords/multi-receptacle outlets

Pets (except for one 10 gallon tank with fish)
Portable heaters (Electric, kerosene, etc.)
Free weights over 20 pounds
Electric or charcoal grills
Paintball guns
Incense

Any appliance with an open flame

Drums and amplified equipment
Air conditioners
Gasoline or any combustible or flammable liquid
This list is not comprehensive. The Residence Life office reserves the right to ask students to remove items that are considered unsafe.
Microwave information: At this time, the only cooking appliance that a student may have in their room is a MicroFridge microwave. These refrigerator/freezer/microwave units are more functional and efficient than individual units. This is a great help for student rooms and energy conservation. All residents will be provided a MicroFridge per room.
The college assumes no responsibility for theft, damage or loss of money, valuables or personal items. It is essential that you protect your valuables. Please check with your family concerning the extent of coverage under existing insurance policies. You may also want to look for renter’s insurance from your own private agent or a company such as these National Student Services, Inc. or Progressive Insurance.
